Goodbye Ergomo

Posted by: eip In: Bike

After a breakout (by my own standard) 2008 season training with power with an Ergomo Powermeter, it is time to say goodbye and try something new.  To the contrary of may negative reports found online, I have had no problems with “Ergie”.  He’s been very reliable and completely maintenance free.  As a matter of fact, a teammate of mine have had an Ergomo setup longer than I and never experienced any issues either.  My parting with Ergie also have nothing to do with its parent company filing for bankruptcy, although I imagine it might be tricky to get support from the mothership should Ergie needs help.

Honestly, I don’t think Ergomo is/was a bad product. Its only fault perhaps is the tricky installation;   It is a sensitive piece of equipment that must be installed as prescript.  Many mechanics, Home or even LBS, are just not prepared for that.  I am willing to bet many problems stemmed from bad installation.

So, if you are thinking about training with power for cheap, look up Ergomo on eBay.  You can get a complete setup for under $1,000.

What getting next you asked?  Being a geek, I’m naturally always looking for new gadgets.  So I will be getting a Garmin 705 Edge + Quarq setup soon.  I shall call it Quarmin.  Stay tune for a review.
